There’s something that I don’t quite get with Honda. They’re basically on a mission to be the world’s greenest automaker and yet they still continue to dish out into the market cars that aren’t really meant to be green though I guess experimenting with pumped up hybrids will someday provide a breakthrough.
Such is the case for the planned Honda NSX replacement. Honda has been mulling over creating their new supercar for a couple of years now, even ditching a V10 monster they were planning some time ago in favor of green tech. But I guess they’re back in business with the replacement.
This time, however, Honda’s keen on really creating a green monster with a tuned version of the (creatively-named) “Electric Super Handling All-Wheel Drive” system that they’ll be offering in the RL saloon and MDX CUV.
The system features a 3.5L V6 that dishes out 310 bhp that works in tandem with a 40 bhp electric motor. The engines transmit drive the front axle through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Additional twin 27-hp electric motors are also slotted in to drive the rear wheels. Honda has yet to peg how they will configure the system for their new green supercar. Now only if they can call the system something different. Like Omega 7 or something.
The new NSX is set to make production by 2013.
