I guess it’s not only the Japanese automaker who’ll be experiencing some supply problems. For the Japanese, it’s the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disaster whammy that’s affecting them now. As for Hyundai, it’s a different issue.

The South Korean automaker has been making a killing in sales worldwide, leapfrogging Ford as the 4th top automaker. However, Hyundai might be facing a production disruption thanks to a shortage in engine parts.

The parts are supplied by Yoosung Enterprise and it’s currently embattled by strikes in their production plants. Workers are currently protesting over wages.

Yoosung supplies Hyundai with piston rings for both diesel and engine powerplants.  Hyundai announced that available parts might dry up as soon as later this May. Kia might also suffer from production disruptions.
