Motorcycles are the cheaper and faster way to get around the Metro but it is definitely not safer.
According to the MMDA’s stats, 66 road incidents involving motorcycles are recorded daily. Road incidents that resulted in fatalities involving motorcycles rose in 2015. In NCR alone, there were 20,283 reported. 262 incidents were fatal. We’re pretty sure there’s also a great deal that was unreported.
In my view, riding a motorcycle takes even more know-how and skill to operate over cars. There’s also a higher physical demand to be able to ride well. Too bad that the same issues that plague idiotic four-wheel drivers also plague riders.
The difference is, motorcycles offer much less protection to riders compared to cars. In a US traffic safety stat, on a per-mile traveled, motorcyclists are 37 times more likely to die compared to car travel.
Share the road, people.
