LTFRB has approved a nationwide fare cut (with exception to the CAR) on taxis. Fare will now be PhP 30 flag-down and PhP 3.50 for every succeeding 500 meters and PhP 3.50 for every waiting time of 90 seconds. The new rates will be effective on March 19.
Airport taxis will likewise adjust their rates to PhP 60 flag-down and PhP 4 for every succeeding 500 meters or 90 seconds waiting time.
As such, LTFRB has scheduled the calibration and releasing of taxi meters with a schedule depending on the plate ending. Operators will face a fine of PhP 5,000 if they fail to have their meters calibrated and sealed according to this schedule.
- April – 4, 9, 2
- May – 5, 0, 7
- June 1, 3, 6, 8
A big contributing factor to the fare adjustment is the relatively low price of fuel these past months. A liter of gasoline can be had for as low as Php 30 and diesel for Php 20.
This is good news for anyone who is still taking a taxi in the days of ride sharing. Though this fare cut might mean that taking ordinary taxis might just become a real cheaper alternative to ride sharing services like Uber and GrabCar.
