After almost 17 years, the Toyota Supra is finally back and it’s available in the Philippines.
The new Toyota GR Supra is a product of an unlikely partnership. It borrows much of its features from BMW’s Z4, as Toyota tapped the German carmaker to revive the well-loved Japanese sportscar. For instance, the new Supra has the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 335 hp and 500 Nm of torque and can hit 100 kph in 4.4 seconds.
The Supra also features a 4-piston Brembo brake calipers and 19-inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that are built specifically to optimize the Supra’s capabilities to brake, turn corners, and accelerate.
For its exterior, the GR Supra has LED headlights with a two-level, 6-lens LED light cluster, the iconic Supra logo at the rear, LED tail lights, and dual exhaust pipes. Inside, the Supra also uses most of Z4’s tech. It features the same 8.8-inch instrument panel, sports seats with 14-way power adjustments, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
While some purists aren’t too happy that Toyota collaborated with BMW, car enthusiasts should still be excited that the storied nameplate like the Supra is finally back and its 5th generation is looking to live up to its heritage.
The Toyota GR Supra is available in three colors, Prominence Red (PhP 4,990,000), Black Metallic (PhP 5,050,000), and Matte Storm Gray (Php 5,090,000).
