It’s no real surprise that former world champion Lewis Hamilton can contend. The guy’s seriously quick and while I have to say that I have now developed quite a bit of liking to Red Bull’s Sebastien Vettel, Hamilton may just be the quicker driver if both drove the same car.
Probably why Hamilton’s decisive victory at the German grand prix wouldn’t come much as a surprise. After qualifying for the two-spot (sandwiched in between Red Bull’s Mark Webber at pole and Vettel at third), Hamilton overtook the pole sitter right from the start.
Hamilton, Webber and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso battled it out but the young Brit proved to be superior around the Nurburgring. The podium eventually saw Hamilton at the top, Alonso at second and Webber at third.
Hamilton’s teammate Jenson Button had to retire no thanks to a hydraulic problem while defending champ and championship leader Vettel managed fourth.
