As expected, McLaren will be milking each and every car it releases into the market. A few years back, the company broke its partnership with Mercedes to develop their own supercar. They came out with the fantastic MP4-12C and its variants. They recently announced a concept late in 2012 – the P1.
Some interesting figures about the car. It won’t compete against the hypercars out there in terms of top speed since it only goes to 217.5 mph. But mind you, that it’s because the P1 will be electronically limited. 0 to 100 kph will be achieved in less than 3 seconds.
It is technically a hybrid – running on a combination of a V8 engine and an electric motor. That, according to McLaren, gives the car some pretty quick throttle response. Combined output from the motors is pegged at 903 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque.
The hybrid configuration supposedly helps negate the effect of turbo lag and make the car feel like it’s naturally aspirated since you get instant acceleration and heaps of torque from the electric motor. Engineers also applied some wicked aerodynamic wizardry on the car with a smart rear wing that works in tandem with the brakes.
So McLaren’s considerate enough to make the motors efficient for day-to-day driving. But come on. A supercar for day-to-day driving? You got to be kidding me.
Fancy one? The car will cost £866,000 or around PHP53M.
