Commonwealth Avenue Quezon City

I haven’t really driven down Commonwealth Avenue for a while and if ever it’s mostly to do a U-Turn to go to UP-Ayala Technohub. Three things that I’ve observed on the road since the 60 kph speed limit was introduced – 1) most drivers abide by the speed limit, 2) some drivers still don’t pay attention to it, and 3) wide road and slow speed makes driving on Commonwealth boring.

Anyway, for those living under a rock (like me) for the past year, MMDA has deemed it necessary to extend the speed limit coverage on Commonwealth. The extension not covers from Batasan to Doña Carmen. So from Philcoa to Doña Carmen, you’re now required to go 60 or less lest you get caught by the cameras and be fined accordingly.

Prior, the speed limit was enforced from Philcoa all the way to Sandiganbayan. That meant that once you’ve crossed Batasan, you were free to floor it and enjoy that last bit of wide road before it slims down past Manggahan.

Now I wonder when they’d start enforcing a speed limit on all major highways. Since I’ve moved places recently, it’s either EDSA or C5 that I frequent more. Not that I do constantly break 60 in my piddly little car but 60 along Commonwealth is pretty slow. Though on EDSA southbound, going past 40 means you’re giving your car’s suspension its due workout.
